Briefing - At the start line

Start Line

At Culverden turn at Mobil Service Station on to St. Leonards Road. The race start is at the junction of St. Leonards and Isolated Hill roads at the base of the Lowry Hills Range.

Riders travel on to the shingle Kaiwara Road up to a high saddle then on to an exciting descent into the picturesque Ethelton Valley. A climb up the Random Spur track follows through tussock covered hills with breathtaking views to the Kaikoura mountains out to the open sea. A long descent follows onto the Mina Road finishing at the Cheviot Rugby Grounds where major place and spot prizes will be awarded.

Showers, lunch and drinks are available to support crews and friends.

Finish

Cheviot Rugby Grounds via Mina Road and Cheviot Showgrounds. Please hand your RACE NUMBER in on finishing and recieve your lunch.


Prize Giving

Between 2:30pm - 3:00pm approx. Major prizes plus spot prizes will be awarded to riders that are present.


Food and Water

You will need two full bottles of water or a Camel Back. You can get additional water at drink stations at KAIWARA SADDLE or on the RANDOM SPUR. Estimate how long it will take you to complete the ride and ensure you have enough food for the number of hours you will be riding. Carry out any litter.


Clothing

A good quality waterproof jacket and thermal clothing to be carried.


Support Vehicles (important please read)

In the interest of competitor safety the Kaiwara Road will be closed to all traffic. Support vehicles will need to travel north to Waiau then through the Leader road to SH1, continue south to the Cheviot Rugby Grounds on Ward Road (approx one hour).

OR

You may travel south on highway 7 to Waikari and turn left at the Star and Garter Hotel through Scargill Valley and on to SH1 to Cheviot (approx one hour).


Conditions of Entry

The K.K. is through farmland so expect to encounter livestock. The Kaiwara Road will be closed to traffic for 23km to the intersection of Eggelston Road.
There is then two kilometers of public road before turning on to the Random Spur farm track.
Road rules apply from the bottom of the Random Spur when you arrive on the gravel road.
You may meet traffic, please keep to the left, you will cross a railway line and the train will not be giving way.

! BE CAREFUL !

You are required to wear a safety helmet at all times during the event and while warming up.


Race Briefing

You must attend, your race number is to be tied to your bike and be visible at all times during the event. You will need to know how to carry out basic repairs, please carry a spare tube and tool kit.
