Thank you to all riders for making the 10th anniversary Kaiwara Classic the biggest yet!  Congratulations to all finishers, category placegetters and especially Anton Cooper and Melissa Newell for taking home the $500 cash prizes for the fastest riders on the new Epic course courtesy of Southern Cross Health Society.  Also congratulations to Craig and Ben Oliver and Kate Woods for taking the Challenge course honours and the $100 prize from Cheviot 4 Square supermarket.

The Kaiwara Classic is an adventure mountain bike race from Culverden to Cheviot...either 43km or 45km of mountain biking adventure over the Lowry Peaks Range via the Kaiwara Saddle before descending through the Ethelton Valley with a climb up the 'Random Spur' before the final fast 4wd track descent and the finishline in Cheviot.

There are 2 course options, with fitter riders able to opt for the 'Epic' course, which continues climbing approximately 1km beyond the Kaiwara Saddle to traverse the tops before rejoining the existing course at Sod Hut corner further down the Ethelton Valley.  Whilst only 2km longer than the traditional 'Challenge' course, the additional climbs are steep and the track much rougher - but the views are fantastic.  See the course page for a detailed description.

The event is run by the Cheviot Lions Club with proceeds from the event being used to fund community projects in the Cheviot area.  All the organisers and marshalls on race day are volunteers.

The event seeks to provide an inviting country atmosphere for the whole family...mountain biking the way it should be.  We offer plenty of generous performance and spot prizes, including cash from Southern Cross Health Society, Chain Reaction Cycles vouchers, fresh meat packs (legendary) and bottles of Charles Wiffen wines.

The Lions would like to thank the event sponsors listed to the right for their generous and on-going support of this event.
